Day 5 - Compassion or cruelty?

Despite the current reality, a better, safer life for every refugee woman should be possible in the UK.

Refugee women arrive in the UK seeking safety from persecution, war, rape, gender-based violence and other forms of torture.

But instead of finding safety here after surviving so much, they only discover even more injustices and experience even more maltreatment and further harm.

Applications for refugee status can take years as a result of a system that has been purposefully built to break people. And the inbuilt inhumanity means that – right here, right now – the world’s most vulnerable women are disbelieved by default, heartlessly detained at random and are often left to ‘live’ in atrocious accommodation.

This isn’t just wrong, it’s shameful. And the UK’s asylum polices are only getting more cruel, more extreme and more unsafe for women, especially for those who are LGBTQ+.

This is no longer about fair or unfair – it’s about life or death.

And those in power can do something about it.

Does your MP choose compassion or cruelty? Hostility or hospitality?

We’re sending a festive message loud and clear this year: The UK needs to Welcome Every Woman.

Find out if your MP is on the naughty or nice list and send them a holiday greeting urging Compassion, not Cruelty.

Together we can make a difference to show that refugees are welcome.
