In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished’. There is a lot of satisfaction in that”
— Fred Lebow

At the end of your run…

We want you to feel two things:

  1. The satisfaction, relief and joy of finishing the world’s largest half marathon!

  2. The pride that comes when you know that what you’ve done has made the world a better place.

These goals aren’t easy - running, just like raising money for a good cause, requires commitment. But with a little effort, over a long time, you can achieve great things for yourself… and for the world.

And don’t forget, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Fundraising Tips

It’s best to start your fundraising early.

And you need the right tools to get you started…

>> Download a sponsor form here

>> Set up a Just Giving Page to share online (for help here view our Just Giving Guide)

>> Order collection boxes to place at work or in a local shop.

>> Download a sweepstake form

In our experience, nothing beats a personal ask. So be bold, be friendly and remember that you are doing a good thing - that people will want to support.

Every pound you raise will help some of the poorest people across the world - and it means the world to us that you’re supporting them.

You probably already know a little bit about our work but perhaps you don’t know quite how much we’re up to.

Over the next few months, in your monthly emails we’ll be highlighting some of the projects your fundraising will be supporting, but if you’re curious now you can find out a little more here

Training Tips

Set your goals early on

What time do you want to finish in? Are you running with (or beating) a friend or family member? How much are you hoping to raise?  Making a plan now will pay off in the long run. Setting small milestones that you’re comfortable with is the key to pacing yourself to success.

Make a training schedule

Once you know how quick you’re aiming to cross that iconic finish line, pick an appropriate training schedule. Runcoach is a free app that adapts to your personal goals and your day-to-day performance meaning you don’t have to worry if you miss a training day. For those preferring a shorter training approach we’ll be sending you a 12 week training schedule a bit closer to the race.

Remember the finish line

No matter how grey, blustery or rainy it looks out there remember how great it’s going to feel when you cross that finish line. The satisfaction of finishing the race for a worthy cause will be second to none. If you want an early dose of that finishing feeling, check out the Great Run’s free weekly 2k and 5k events or your nearest park run.

Don’t be humble

You’re doing something great for yourself and others, don’t be shy, let the world know you’re out there getting ready to smash this run. We’ll be giving you plenty of advice for your fundraising activities so whether you want to host a coffee morning, BBQ or party don’t hesitate to get in contact for help, advice and resources.

What to expect from us…

You’ll receive monthly emails full of training and fundraising tips and we’ll also set up a Facebook Event to help you support each other through the training months.

You’ll also receive a Traidcraft Exchange training vest in June which we hope you will wear with pride both on the day and during your training.

Great North Run will send you your race number once you have redeemed your token – we will tell you how to do this in the coming weeks.
